Performing sequential δ15N, δ13C and δ34S in samples with low sulfur abundance

Looking at the sulfur isotope ratio of a sample alongside its carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios oftentimes unlocks different and complementary information. This type of multi-isotope approach has proven particularly powerful in the field of food authenticity control, environmental research, ecology, archaeology, and forensic science.

This Technical Note presents the unique features of our EA-IRMS systems which ensure great analytical performance and a great user experience. Furthermore, the capabilities of our EA-IRMS systems are demonstrated by peak chromatograms and CNS data of a variety of samples such as of 40 mg of spruce wood, which contains only 2.4 µg of sulfur and has a C:S ratio of 8,000:1.
